Teen sentenced for robbery, killing at Kansas business

JOHNSON COUNTY —A Kansas teen who admitted his role in a 2022 robbery and murder at a business in Shawnee, Kansas is going to prison.

Last week, a Johnson County judged sentenced 19-year-old Fernando Reyes-Lara to 400 months in prison.

On January 17, Reyes-Lara pleaded guilty to Second Degree Murder and Aggravated Robbery in the death of Jarod Rogers, according to the Johnson County District Attorney's office.

On Nov. 30, 2022, police made a welfare check on a business in Shawnee and found Rogers with a gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital and died two days later.

Reyes-Lara is among five teens including 17-year-old Sabrina Clark; 17-year-old Kyleigh Guzman; 17-year-old Roger Hernandez and 17-year-old Fernando Gonzalez-Prado accused in the killing.
