By John P TretbarVoters in Buchanan County must decide whether to allow the county to set up an ambulance service, and add a quarter cent to the sales tax to pay for it.
The election is Tuesday, and County Clerk Mary Baack-Garvey says she’s expecting voter turnout of about 15%, which is a little higher than most off-year, fall elections with just one issue being decided.
“It will be a little higher,” Baack-Garvey said. “The average of the off-years that we’ve had with single ballot issues have been anywhere from ten to twelver percent.”
“I’m hearing a lot of nay-sayers and a lot of people for it, so I think that’s going to produce a little higher turnout.”
Baack-Garvey says she was hoping for upwards of 20% but she says the rain in the forecast could keep some of you away from the polls.
