Buchanan County Prosecuting Attorney Dwight Scroggins says no decision has been made about charging a suspect in the death of his cellmate at the county jail early Tuesday morning.

“There are a lot of things that need to get done before we can make a decision,” Scroggins said. “We are waiting for preliminary autopsy reports, and the Sheriff’s Office is still conducting interviews. It will likely be the first part of next week before a charging decision is made.”

Michael Bozarth, 25, of St Joseph was found dead in his cell around 2am Tuesday by jail staff. Inmates had reported hearing a commotion in the cell. There were only two inmates in the cell at the time of the killing.

Bozarth was a repeat sex offender, and was awaiting trial on new sodomy charges involving the abuse of children under the age of nine.

I feel bad for you allan your son did horrible things this is true, but by no means do any of us have the right to judge him. God is the only one to judge. God loves all his children and he gives mercy to all of us. No one is perfect we all know that. Please give your daughter your support and my support I feel for the victims of his crime and their families and you and your family. Please be strong and know that some of us do care. If it was these peoples family member they would feel the same. No one knows what they would do if they were in your shoe’s right now. Be strong and God be with you

he gets wat he deserves the kids that he touched are scared for life so another took his.. them type of people should get the death penalty. n this case justice was served. and for the family not to sorry because something must of happened at home when he was little …normal people don’t do things like that..

You’re an idiot! Of course normal people don’t do things like this, obviously he had issues. However, to blame his family is ludicrous. I hope you never have to live through someone in your family who makes horrible choices – that you have no control over – and then have complete strangers blame you for it.

The simple fact that his family defends him is disgusting. Anyone that defends him should never procreate. If I need to define to the family on what I said let me know.

Mr schrithfield….I do sympathize with you….but respect…I believe that should go to the victums of his actions. They will never bury what they’ve been through. What is sad though is that most criminals exibit behaviors that cast suspison when younger. Did your family not see signs or did they turn a blind eye? Comments..I believe everyone has a 5th admendment right. Or are you turning a blind eye to them?

Sad as it is. this death could have been prevented. If BCSD had the proper emergency call system set up in their cells. I expect to see a wrongful death lawsuit against BCSD for this. This could have been any person in jail. and no one cares because of the charges against him. Well ill tell you this, if someone killed your kid. it would be a different story. Fact is, BCSD is responsible for the safety of ALL INMATES. IF the proper emergency buttons were installed in the CELLs this would have never happened. FACT. Another thing is, beating on your cell door and flashing your light does no good WHEN POD OFFICERS IGNORE INMATES. FACT. BCSD should be facing the biggest lawsuit ever.

Give the inmate a medal! He didn’t deserve to die? Really? What good was he going to contribute to society? He did awful things to innocent children and justice was served, whether it was served in a tasteful way or not…

A child molester was killed by a child murderer. I wouldn’t sing anyones praise to quick. They were locked up together because general population would have taken care of both of em. I can’t believe people are defend or blaming anyone in this scenerio.

The guy who killed him is going to get life anyway. He knew that. What did he have to loose? Even though he is a child murderer, he will probably have it a little easier in prison due to the fact that he killed a child molester.
It is just sad upon sad.
I say to the family……….You had to know this was going on. You knew he was a predetor. Why was he not housed in a mental facility? If this were my son………he would not be allowed to walk among you. I would not let him prey on society and hope that it didn’t happen again. It would have been handled a long time ago. I love my son too but does that love mean that I let him be a monster and destroy lives? No.
Don’t come back at me with we had no choice or there was nothing we could do. The court would have given you legal guardianship over him. The state would have labeled him as disabled, and you could have put him away where they would have kept him drugged up and away from society.
Sounds super harsh right? I would have done it to my kid in a heartbeat if he had done what Michael had done!

everything you are saying sounds right. However, the system doesn’t work like that. You don’t know what his family tried or did to help him. Things aren’t as easy as most of society thinks when it comes to dealing with a person that has issues. No one knows or will understand unless they are or have gone through it. You can’t just have someone committed or locked up, regardless of how much help the need. If only it were that easy! As a society we are at the mercy of the system. A system that doesn’t understand or know how to handle mental health issues. If they did then Bozarth wouldn’t have been out to hurt additional children. The point to my rant is: Don’t lay blame on his family like there was something they didn’t do when you don’t have any idea of what they may have tried to do.

Ok. I get your point. What “did” they do? Do you know? They have been on here, so let them educate us as to what they did to stop his behavior. Maybe we, as a society, could learn what works and what doesn’t work.
